India’s largest online taxi aggregator Ola plans to expand business to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, as it is hiring operation experts in Dhaka and Colombo.
Naveen Narayan, one of the members of the talent acquisition at Ola, sought applications from candidates for the job, according to a post in his LinkedIn account.
The move is seen as a challenge to Uber services in Dhaka and Colombo. Ola and Uber are currently engaged in a fierce battle for market dominance in India. The Bengaluru-based startup, founded in 2011, has a larger presence in India but faces tough competition from Uber in 28 cities.
Ola, the online transportation network company, raised US$100 million in a fresh round of funding from Falcon Edge Capital and Ratan Tata’s UC-RNT capital.
It came months after it received US$250 million from Japanese investor SoftBank Group.
Ola had a turbulent ride over the past year with the exit of a number of senior-level executives coupled with valuation markdowns. The fresh investment could help Ola expand its base. (Courtesy: bdnews24.com)
