Commenting on the government removing an age old ban on women working in bars, Regional Development Minister Sarath Fonseka said at a time when women commandeered fighter jets, women were found competent to do whatever men did.
“If men can work and manage bars so can women,” he said.
Speaking to the media after a function in Gampaha, the minister said some 2,000 temples had been closed and 2,000 bars established during the Rajapaksa regime.
He said he agreed with the policy decisions of the government despite the criticism aimed at them. (Darshana Sanjeewa)

SF this issue does not effect your class. There are so many poverty stricken families broken because of alcoholic fathers. Last thing we need is broken families because of alcoholic mothers. Shame on you.

Already country in chaos and so much damage with women going abroad as housemaids, Next will be with women working in bars. There are plenty of decent jobs women can do to support their families

You say that 2000 bars opened by Mahinda's time was a very bad policy. Then you support women working in Bars! It will create more bars and more sales! Then more and more men and women getting drunk too. What a hypocrisy!!!!!!!!!!!

Well said Sir, we are glad of your support for women in bars and for them to purchase liquor.

In Europe and other countries mostly the women are working in bars. I have never seen a drunken lady serving the guests. This is a job like any other. We have noticed that wives of politicians drinking alcohol in hotels and restauarants in Sri Lanka.Siri

If men can drink so can women. They can drink in the bar up to 10pm and bring another bottle home. Then children also can join. Is this Sri Lankan culture?

You of course simply are not understood that fact of blue color job vs white color job. Can not you think of giving them good job other than this.
