CMA to commence Certificate Course in Corporate Secretaryship

Identifying and responding to a growing need in the corporate sector, the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA) will be commencing a Certificate Course in Corporate Secretaryship in November 2017.

The course aims to improve the knowledge, skills and abilities of CMA members and Company Secretaries employed in a range of entities including private/public companies, finance companies to banks and those working in company secretariats within a listed environment.

Any company secretariat in a listed business faces a multitude of legal and regulatory challenges. This intensive course offers a practical guide to some of those challenges, combining a detailed look at the law and regulation which determine the secretary’s work with true life examples and solutions designed to enable participants to put theory into practice.

The programme starts with a look at the statutory role and core duties of the company secretary, moving on to explore the secretary’s work in such key areas as working with the board of directors, its various committees; compliance with the listing, disclosure and transparency rules; regulation and best practice in corporate governance; compliance with CBSL regulations for banks and finance companies, share plans and other executive incentives; managing investor relations and year-end matters.

The course takes an in-depth look at: Role and duties of the company secretary, the board of directors and committees, meeting the requirements of the registrar of companies, listing, disclosure and transparency rules - meeting the requirements of CSE, meeting the regulations of the CBSL for banks and finance companies, corporate governance and the year-end and 
general meetings.

Built around 60 contract hours spanning six months, the course will be conducted by acclaimed resource persons with wide, varied and specialized knowledge in all areas of secretarial practice. They include senior company secretaries qualified from the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators UK, Bentley Barsenbach, Rajanie Balakrishnan and Dayani De Silva.
