A large crowd was seen protesting against bull fighting in several areas in the Northern Province during Thai Pongal.
At these events several of the bulls end up severely injured while the onlookers resort to gambling. Bull fighting is prohibited in many countries.
In Sri Lanka it is not banned though gambling is prohibited.
Many animal rights activists say bull fighting which is a form of cruelty to animals should be stopped. (Romesh Madushanka)

A complete uncivilized and cruelty act by a group of scum. Not only these types of animal cruelty should be banned but the law shall be altered to make it a serious crime.

Those people involved in bull fighting in Jaffna come from outside the mainstream Hindu Tamils. They are themselves thugs and the Police should use Public Order and stop this happening in the future.

I thought the Tamils cared for the cows and bulls as if they were God's vehicles. Shame on Tamils, who think of enjoying themselves at the expense of harassing these innocent animals.
