Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera said that he was against the law that only allows those above 35 years to drive a three wheeler

“I asked for this to be reduced to 25. We have to give the freedom for a person to do the job of his choice” he said at an event in Matara.

Earlier, Transport Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said his ministry had decided to impose a minimum age limit of 35 on three-wheeler drivers when issuing driving licenses for passenger transport.

Everyone doesn't deserve a luxury of a motor car like you. Think equally.

    Arnold Monday, 20 August 2018 09:25 AM

If they could use the money they spend on themselves, to build a light railway like in Singapore or KL, there will be no need for 3 wheelers.

    LS Sunday, 19 August 2018 01:43 PM

SL Government must introduce the "P-Plate" (Provisional Licence) system as in other countries for new drivers. Then they can control inexperienced drivers from driving taxis for passenger transport for hire.

The Good one Monday, 20 August 2018 09:17 AM

There are 1,139,524 TWs registered till 2017. Maybe 30% of those drivers are below 25.Manga, then whats your plan on providing jobs to these TW license removed hundreds of thousand people?Maybe millions are under 25 and driving threLeave them to wandering around streets?

    Jude Monday, 20 August 2018 09:42 AM

Me too!!! Should be 25 years!!! License should be given after mandatory training course!! And thereafter, every 3 years to repeat the training for all threewheel drivers!!!

    Gunesoma Monday, 20 August 2018 09:53 AM

Get rid of these OLD EXPIRING BALOONS AND REPLACE WITH YOUNG BRAVE FEARLESS PEOPLE'S

    Decentgent Monday, 20 August 2018 10:04 AM

Jude is talking some sense here. Wit the increasing rate of death and other casualties to due careless 3W drivers, perhaps the rule of 35 years over has been recommended by the Transport minister. hat would be the action for those 3W drivers who are now 35? Hence recommend proper training is necessary and also heavy fines are imposed on reckless drivers, let it to be 3W drivers or ppl who drive other vehicles.

Kingsley Wijesinhe Monday, 20 August 2018 10:29 AM

I don't think Nimal Siripala can take away the fundamental right of an adult to engage in any lawful occupation of his/her choice. Being a lawyer, he should know that it can't be done.

    Raseed Monday, 20 August 2018 11:35 AM

Why Mangala is interfering with the other Ministry?

    Alex Monday, 20 August 2018 12:46 PM

Imposing of any law, rule, regulation by the Govt. has become a joke. The next day it will be taken back.In this country we find a different president each day.
