The government will provide jobs for all unemployed graduates under four stages in 2018 and 2019, Minister Harsha de Silva told Parliament today.
“The first two groups that had completed their degrees before December 31, 2016 will receive employment this year, and the remaining groups that had graduated before June 30, 2018 will receive employment next year,” he said.
Responding to a question raised by JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake whether the external graduates would be considered when providing employment, the minister said they would not be disregarded but that a Cabinet decision had been taken to give priority to internal graduates.
“Considering the appeals made by applicants, the maximum age limit for graduate recruitment has been increased from 35 to 45,” he said. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

The country has given excellent education and special university education. Once all this have been provided, the gradutes should try and choose a job which they love to work hard to develop the country and to improve their talent. If they cannot find what they want easily, they should develop their educational talent to create a job on their own, where they contribute to develop themselves and the country. The Idea is to use their education to develop themselves and the country.

Hope, then their 4th stage will be helpful. Because, First stage counted 10-year, Second stage will be 20-year, Third stage 30-year and Fourth stage 40-year. A person given an opportunity in 45 years of age will be retired serving 10 years. Briefly, every person entitled to have job will be appointed to a job in 45-years. Best Policy.

pathetic situation, these so called unemployed graduates benefited from free education from school to university level paid by tax payer and now they wanted jobs in the government sector rather than private sector and been a burden the the nation and it’s a joke to raise the age limit to 45 years cos there are even more graduates 20 years younger waiting to join the free ride in state sector employment

Here we go employing people with no technical qualifications but educated for free at SL universities in Pali, Sanskrit and Buddhist literature. No doubt they will be in technical jobs in the government sector! When will SL wake up....

Unemployment burden to the economy. At the same time don't waste tax payers money.Individuals couldn't find job because of missing right mix of skills . Provide additional support to gain those skills like IT, etc. Do something beneficial to everyone.

Development and problem solving fast-tracked thanks to impending elections which in all probabilities the incumbent will lose. Impending disaster management shall we say. Whatever, good for the public.

The curse of Sri Lanka. These invented positions just waste our tax money and take people from the private employment pool. The stupid thing is the government is also looking to increase the number of degree courses when there is no demand.

What he is actually saying is that he will add a few hundred billion a year into the already bloated state sector. Instead what he should do is to correct the wrongs in our education system which keeps spewing out graduates who are unemployable. A program to retrain is better. If a so called graduate cannot find a job 10 years after graduating then there is a real issue. The answer certainty is not to dump productive resources down a black hole. To think that this comes from a leading economist like Mr. He. De S is a frightening prospect for the country. They have lost control.

Unemployment is bad for a country. But filling those unemployed with the state sector is worse. Our resources talents and potentials are wasted. And we spend large amounts of tax money on already huge state sector without profiting the country. A poor country cannot maintain such a huge state sector

Suggest the graduates to get into agriculture, farming diary or anything, poultry, moreover, cultivating something!!! Anything!!!! That's the only way to reduce or eliminate unemployment among the graduates!!! Period!!
