It is absolutely sad to see the countries lead allowing the creation of a new conflict for reasons for political expediency. It is the government's responsibility to see their citizens have a place to live.

We will never learn from our mistakes and seems to have a never ending ability to find some way to ruin our lives and in the process kill our selves. It's only a matter of time before another bloodshed.

    Sagarika Monday, 28 April 2014 02:58 PM

Hahahah! everyone here is been folled big time by this staged drama! by none other than a Minister who was behind a stoning of a court house!

Fazreen Razeek Monday, 28 April 2014 01:01 PM

See how underprivileged these people are. Some living luxurious lives in the cities want these people to get ride off that place. I wonder what fact is scratching them so much.

These are poor peasants of SL:plz do not wield authority & make them homeless;they are all citizens of SL & the management of this country has to take care of them; put them into friendly environment prior to acquiring the land;we are all one SL & cannot trouble our fellow countryman.

Be it Singhalese, Tamils or Muslims, these are poor people who live with great difficulties. Maybe one of the muslim children born in this village will be Buddhist monk in the next life and a Buddhist monk who is agitating against these poor people being housed there might be born a Muslim child in the same village. All of us are human beings.... Please... do not let Politicians poison and separate us as this and that. After some time the monks who agitate against and the Muslim Minister will forget about this along with the whole country. However, these poor people will still will remain here or elsewhere as a poor people ignored by all.
When will we Sri Lankans learn to live like human beings not as Budhists, Christians, Muslims, Tamils etc etc ?

    amal Sunday, 27 April 2014 06:20 PM

    totally agree.

    kevin Sunday, 27 April 2014 06:11 PM

Poor is you who don't know about whats is going on behind this illegal but systematic land encroachment all over Sri Lanka!

    G.M. Jayawardena Sunday, 27 April 2014 04:03 PM

This short sighted action has created another problem as it may encourage the other groups to cut down more trees and destroy more forests to get lands. Not a wise way of resolving the issue.

    Sunil P. Friday, 25 April 2014 12:14 AM

Give back their land to Muslims. Looks like they are poor people.

    yazeer Sunday, 27 April 2014 02:09 PM

How can srilanka ever stand up as a nation If srilankans are still reluctant or worried abt giving e a couple of acres for the poorest of people living in this country because of their ethnicity...

    Banda Sunday, 27 April 2014 01:04 PM

Why not make these poor people re-settled in the Sinhala areas, then as of all races Sinhala, Muslim, Tamil, Christian etc... can live together.

who voiced their opinions when these innocent civilians were ETHNICALLY by the LTTE withing 1 hour and ONLY with 100 rupees per person and all jewelry confiscated? where were he so called Human rights advocates? now one of their own, Rishard who was also a refugee ONE TIME is trying to help and he is being abused for helping the very people who need to be helped..all u dimwits need to see the BIGGER picture than sit on comfy chairs and be arm chair critics... switch tables and put urselves in their shoes.... remember. Japanese were RICH... little did they expect to be living in shelters after an unexpected TSUNAMI hot em.... so dont be too sure that what u have today , u might have until ur last breath....

Martin Milton Sunday, 27 April 2014 09:24 AM

The GOSL simply HAS to step in and overrule this high handed action of this Minister YET AGAIN! ASAP and find these people land, IF they are GENUINE citizens, elsewhere, possibly in the North?

    Rohana Sunday, 27 April 2014 06:40 AM

There are hundreds of thousands of Sinhala and Tamil people also without proper living places. Just get ot of your comfortable seats and go to poor areas. SO it should be equal and given according to their age, income and disability. Families who can work should be offered jobs and if they don't work they don't get any. People should also help with family planning as if they can't afford they should limit the number of children so that children don't have to suffer. With all these problems why are we giving Pakistanis in their hundred asylum and hoses?

Dhammika Herath Saturday, 26 April 2014 07:16 AM

    S.D.Dharmasena Friday, 25 April 2014 08:13 PM

These poor peoples should be given suitable land to put up their homes.

    salla Friday, 25 April 2014 07:08 AM

resettlement should be for all races and not one race as we need to live together.

Ranjith Silva Friday, 25 April 2014 04:18 AM

What is this mix-up, Minister of Industries is doing what coming under Minister of Rehabilitation portfolio.
