SriLankan Airlines’ Corporate Communications Department organised an Avurudu festival exclusively for the Sri Lankan media fraternity, at Taj Samudra, North Lawn recently.
More than a hundred journalists representing Sri Lanka’s print, electronic media institutions and international news agencies, including chief editors and channel directors, were present at the event. It was aimed at appreciating the support extended by the media to the airline over the years and further strengthening the bond between them and SriLankan.
The evening started off with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp by SriLankan Airlines Chairman Ajith Dias, Chief Executive Officer Captain Suren Ratwatte, Chief Commercial Officer Siva Ramachandran, General Manager Marketing Saminda Perera and Manager Media Development Deepal Perera, together with the editors and news directors representing over 51 media institutions. For journalists who are often assigned to cover Avurudu festivals, it was a rare day to leave aside their cameras and notebooks and take part in the traditional Avurudu games, sometimes teaming up with their counterparts and competing against fellow journalists from the same institutions, for victory. It was an evening full of friendly rivalries, renewed friendships and moments to remember.
