A day after being arrested for running over a 64-year old-man in Panadura, just south of Colombo, Kusal Mendis has been released on bail.
Panadura Additional Magistrate granted Mendis's bail on two sureties worth 1 million Sri Lankan rupees on Monday (July 6). He further reportedly ordered compensation worth 1 million to be paid to the victim's family, who succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
While his driving license has been temporarily suspended by the court, the next hearing is scheduled for September 9.
Kusal has represented Sri Lanka in 44 Tests, 76 ODIs and 26 T20Is, and was part of the Sri Lankan squad that underwent a training camp in Pallekele earlier in the week.
