B.D.H. Gomes of Western Province set up a Sri Lanka record by lifting 48.0 kg in the women’s snatch event at the 40th National Sports Festival 2014 held at the Kelaniya University Gymnasium. The earlier record was held by D.D.D. Abeysekera of North Western Province who had a snatch of 62 kg.
Altogether five weightlifting records were set up in the women’s events. They were by W.C.M. Warnakulasuriya (Western Province) with 53 kg in the clean and jerk event. B.C. Priyanthi (Southern Province) lifted 63 kg in the snatch event. S.S. Kumarasinghe (Southern Province) lifted 69 kg in the clean and jerk and total category setting up two new records in the process.
M.M.D. Harischandra (Central Province) lifted 75 + kg in the snatch event. The Best Lifter in the women’s events was W.C.M. Warnakulasooriya of Western Province).
In the men’s events three new records were set up by W.P.G.D.C. Jyawickrema of Central Province (105 kg clean and jerk), A.G.S. Abeywickrema of Central Province who set up two records in the clean and jerk and total.
In the men’s events D.K.T.W.K. Palagasinghe of North Central Province was adjudged the Best Lifter.
