Spinner Dunith Wellalage returned impressive figures of six for eight runs as St. Joseph’s College crushed Piliyandala Central by 10 wickets in their Under-17 Inter-Schools Cricket Tournament encounter played at Darley Road yesterday.
Wellalage’s six wickets helped the Joes to bundle out their opponents for a paltry 36 runs and the winners cruised to their target in just six overs.
Meanwhile, Carey College coasted to a six-wicket win over Lyceum, Wattala in another match played at the Railway Grounds in Mount Mary.
At Darley Road (St. Joseph’s won by 10 wickets)
Piliyandala Central: 36 in 27.1 overs (Dunith Wellalage 6/8, Yesith Rupasinghe 2/4, Dineth Anthony 2/9)
St. Joseph’s: 41/0 in 6 overs (Dinal Anuradha 23 n.o).
At Mount Mary (Carey won by six wickets)
Lyceum, Wattala: 126 in 42.5 overs (Pasindu Kaushal 28, Mithush Lakshan 20, Aveesha Weeraratne 4/37, Vihanga Dimantha 2/12, Suhail Noor 2/23)
Carey: 127/4 in 22 overs (Mohamed Nabeel 46, Viranga Yeshan 26 n.o, Chathumal de Silva 3/33)
