St. Peter’s, Rathnayake MMV claim Overall Titles

St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya and A. Rathnayake MMV, Walala clinched the Boys’ and Girls’ Overall Senior Championship respectively at the 35th All-Island School Games Athletics Meet which concluded at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday (03).

The Boys’ Overall Champions St. Peter’s obtained 133 points while the Girls’ Overall Champions A. Rathnayake MMV collected a total of 235 points.

St. Mary’s College, Chilaw (73 points) and Sumana Balika MV, Ratnapura (89 points) were the runners-up in the Boys’ and Girls’ Overall Championship.

A total of 49 new meet records were established at this 4-day meet where the Boys’ shattered 27 records and the Girls’ bettered 22 records.

Meanwhile, Dilhan Bandara of Weekada MV, Lunuwila and Shelinda Jenson of Gateway College, Rajagiriya won the Boys’ and Girls’ Best Athlete Award respectively.

Bandara clocked 47.53 seconds in the Under-18, Boys’ 400 metres while Jenson finished the Under-20, Girls’ 200m in 24.48s.

Western Province won the Province Championships and Central Province took the runners-up place. The third place went to North Western Province.

  • U-20 Girls’: A. Rathnayaka MMV, Walala.
  • Junior Champions (Boys’): Ananda, Colombo.
  • Junior Champions (Girls’): Vijayapura KV, Thanamalwila.
  • Senior Champions (Boys’): St. Peter’s, Colombo.
  • Senior Champions (Girls’): A. Rathnayaka MMV, Walala.
  • Mix Schools Champions: A. Rathnayaka MMV, Walala.
  • Relay Champions (Girls’): A. Rathnayaka MMV, Walala.
  • Relay Champions (Boys’): St. Peter’s, Colombo.
  • Best Hurdler: Navodya Sankalpa (Mahinda).
  • Best Jumper: T. G. M. Sandanuwa (Rajanganaya MV).
  • Best Thrower: Rumesh Tharanga (St. Peter’s, Colombo)
  • Best Runner: U. B. M. R. D. Bandara (Weekada MV, Lunuwila).
  • Best Athlete (Boys’): Dilhan Bandara (Weekada MV, Lunuwila).
  • Best Athlete (Girls’): Shelinda Jenson (Gateway, Rajagiriya).
  • Best Performing School 2019: Royal, Colombo.
