Sri Lanka Emerging XI crash to third defeat

Sri Lanka Emerging XI crashed to their third successive defeat of the ongoing ACC Emerging Cup cricket tournament with a seven-wicket loss to Afghanistan Emerging XI in the final round match played at Cox’s Bazaar today (18).

Sri Lanka Emerging XI couldn't capitalise on a ton by skipper Charith Asalanka and a half-ton by Kamindu Mendis - the pair also putting on 117 runs for the fourth wicket.

Their late order batting crumbled from a healthy position of 202 for 3 in the 39th over as they lost seven wickets for the addition of just 36 runs.

Afghanistan Emerging XI in their run chase of 239 were guided by Shahidullah who made an unbeaten knock of 102 inclusive of seven boundaries and three sixes and was involved in valuable partnerships - first an opening wicket stand of 99 runs with Abdul Malik and the other of 61 runs for the third wicket with Darwish Rasooli.

Meanwhile Pakistan Emerging XI and Bangladesh Emerging XI continued their winning spree as they chalked up their third successive wins with the former overcoming Oman Emerging XI by 147 runs and the latter getting the better of Nepal Emerging XI with ease, by eight wickets.

Pakistan Emerging XI posted a formidable score of 319 for 6 which came on the back of a ton by Haider Ali who made 118 that included ten boundaries and two sixes. He also associated in two valuable partnerships, for 67 runs for the first wicket with Omar Yousuf and 107 runs for the second wicket with skipper Rohail Nazir. Oman Emerging XI in their turn were able to muster a score of only 172 runs.

Bangladesh Emerging XI in pursuit of a simple run chase of 139 set by Nepal Emerging XI runs was steered by skipper Najimul Shanto who made an unbeaten half ton and added 79 runs for the second wicket with Mohammad Naim to reach the target in the 24th over.

An all-round performance by Shubham Sharma and an unbeaten ton by Chinmay Sutar paved the way for India Emerging XI to record a convincing 120-run win over Hong Kong Emerging XI.

Sutar and Shubham put on an unbroken 158 runs for the sixth wicket to help them post a massive score of 322 for 5 and later Shubham bagged four scalps to restrict the opponents to a score of 202.

The two semi finals are scheduled to be played on November 20 and 21 and the final is slotted to be played on November 23. All these matches will be played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
