Sri Lanka secured their place at the World Youth Netball Championships when they defeated Hong Kong 75-49 in the third-place playoff match played at the Kashima Sports Centre in Japan yesterday.
Meanwhile, the runners-up in the 2017 event Malaysia emerged champions when they beat the defending champions Singapore 57-48 in the final.
In the first-round Sri Lanka beat South Korea 95-7, Nepal 136-7, Thailand 85-29 and lost to Singapore 58-66. In the semi-finals Singapore beat Hong Kong 62-36 and Malaysia beat Sri Lanka 72-54.
The current champions Malaysia, runners-up Singapore and the third-place winner Sri Lanka qualified for the World Youth Netball Championships to be held in Fiji in 2021. (SP)
