Ranjan Ranatunga of Mawanella Recreation Club emerged champion of the Kandy District Billiards Tournament when he coasted to an easy win over his club mate M. M. M. Ramzi in the final worked off at the Mawanella Recreation Club Billiards Table yesterday.
This tournament was a qualifier to select the two players who would proceed to the All-Island Lanka Plate Championship which is the final qualifying tournament to select the players who would contest at the forthcoming National Billiards Championship.
Ranjan and Ramzi in their run up to the final overcame two players from the same club, M. S. N. Thamzil and A. S. F. Ansaf respectively in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, the All-Island Lanka Plate Championship is scheduled to cue off on June 23 at the Moors Sports Club Billiards Table.
A total of 27 cueists will vie for honours in an attempt to qualify for the National Billiards Championship along with the top ranked cueists in the island.
The final is scheduled for June 24 which will be preceded by the clash for the third-place.

M. M. M. Ramzi (Mawanella RC) beat A. S. M. Anfas (Mawanella RC) (161/147). Ranjan Ranatunga (Mawanella RC) beat M. S. M. Thamzil (Mawanella RC) (189/109).

Ranjan Ranatunga (Mawanella RC) beat M. M. M. Ramzi (Mawanella RC) (335/154).
