Since joining the Singer Group in July 1987 as a Data Processing Manager, Paranavitane has had an illustrious career marked by regular promotions and continual self-improvement. His diligence and focus on results were rewarded with a promotion to the position of Group Manager —Information Technology in January 1997. In December 1998, Paranavitane resigned from the Singer Group in order to pursue an employment opportunity in the United States. After working overseas for a year, he returned to Sri Lanka, rejoining the Singer Group as Deputy Director — Information Technology. His career progression continued with a subsequent promotion in January 2005 to the position of Director — Information Technology, a Key Management role at Singer (Sri Lanka). Paranavitane holds a Bachelor of Science Degree with Second Class Honours from the University of Colombo, as well as a Diploma in Computer System Design from the National Institute of Business Management.
He is also a Chartered IT Professional and has been elected a Fellow of the British Computer Society. He has complemented his computer studies with a Post Graduate Diploma in Business and Financial Administration from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL). He distinguished himself at the ICASL’s Post Graduate Diploma examination, where he won a number of awards, including being placed first in order of merit and a Prize for Excellence.
