  • Initiative to take ICT infrastructure to rural areas,
  • Contact Centre to exclusively cater to the country’s Tamil-speaking community

In its continuous mission to lead Sri Lanka’s ICT transformation across the island, the National Mobile Service Provider, Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel opened its second regional contact centre in Mullaitivu recently.

This is the second regional contact centre opened by Mobitel, with the first being opened early this year at Sooriyawewa in Hambantota. As the National Mobile Service Provider, Mobitel remains consistent in its commitment towards the development of ICT in rural areas of Sri Lanka.

The opening of a contact centre in Mullaitivu will not only give the area a well-deserved boost in the ICT sector, but will also be the best location for a technologically advanced customer care contact centre that will cater exclusively to the Tamil-speaking segment of the population. The centre will also boast a fully-fledged Mobitel Services Centre which will offer all Mobitel services that are available at all its other branches across the island.

The opening of the Mobitel Contact Centre in Mullaitivu will benefit residents of the area vastly due to a number of factors, such as creating a number of job opportunities whilst also introducing Mobitel technology to the region. All employees of the Mullaitivu Contact Centre have been selected from the area and its adjacent towns and as a result, Mobitel now boasts of a strong team of qualified and dynamic individuals who will undoubtedly prove to be of great value to the company’s performance.

The Mobitel Mullaitivu Contact Centre will act as a support system to the Colombo-based principal contact centre. Mobitel’s capacity and capability of its infrastructure and technology in establishing a similarly able support system in Mullaitivu is clearly demonstrated, ensuring it will now be utilized to support the Colombo Contact Centre.

Commenting on the expansion, Chief Executive Officer of Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, Mr. Lalith De Silva said, “This is truly a great moment for all of us at Mobitel as we open a regional contact centre in this part of the island. As the National Mobile Service Provider, we wish to contribute towards the nation’s development by developing the ICT landscape through our service offerings and technology. We believe our expansion into the Mullaitivu area takes place in an ideal setting as we prepare the community to embrace the upcoming opportunities. As a customer-centric mobile service provider, we strive to ensure that our services and customer care is provided unimpeded. We engaged in this strategic expansion to Mullaitivu, to enhance our capacity to serve our customers better. The opening of our first call centre in Hambantota was hugely successful, and has recorded an increase in productivity, whilst also helping us to reduce our costs. I strongly believe that such initiatives further reinforce the fact that many who live out of the urban areas also possess the right skills in terms of knowledge, talent and efficiency to serve our valuable customers.”

Namal Rajapaksa, MP, Chairman, Tharunyata Hetak Organization said, “I congratulate Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel on the opening of its 2nd call centre in Mullaitivu today. It is certainly encouraging to see a top corporate such as Mobitel taking the prerogative to develop even the most rural of areas in the country. Mobitel’s work is highly commendable and it is this strength in vision that is beginning to shape our ICT landscape, taking us towards becoming the Wonder of Asia.”
