Equal first - P.A.Madushani Chaturani of Sanghamitta, Galle

A student of Sanghamitta Balika Vidyalaya in Galle, P.A.Madushani Chaturani Kulatunga was also placed first at the GCE ordinary level examination 2012.

"I planned my studies and extracurricular activities in such a way that my examination was not a burden on me and it was the secret of my success. I am happy to have brought repute to the school and to our principal who will retire this year. Ours is a Buddhist school where the tenets of Buddhist culture were inculcated in us from our formative years. My elder sister who had scored a similar triumph at her examination helped me in my studies. I owe much to our principal and the teachers who were largely instrumental in my success."  Madushani said.

Madushani who actively participated in extra curricular activities is the member of the school band. She has brought repute to the school through her outstanding performance at literary day competitions, English day competitions and as a Melodica player at an all-island instrumental music competition.
She said her ambition was to be a doctor

Island second - Ayodya Gayathri de Alwis of Sanghamitta, Galle

Ayodya Gayathri De Alwis of Galle Sanghamitta College, who came third in the island at the GCE ordinary level examination 2012 said, she did not burn midnight oil and attended to her lessons without considering the examination a burden.

"I pursued my studies under the guidance of my teachers and according to a time table and was confident I would come within the first ten in the all-island rank. I have scored a triumph and I am second only to a class mate and a Royalist." Ayodya said.

Ayodya is the daughter of a family of two children. Her father Lal De Alwis is a Customs Officer and her mother Manjula who had been a school teacher in Amparai district resigned from service in the interest of her children's future after failing to get a transfer to the Galle district.

"My brother who passed his Advanced Level in the Bio science stream is pursuing further studies. My parents pay particular attention to our education. I attended school everyday until the day of the examination and attended to my studies punctually.  I discussed everything with my teachers and my friends and referred the internet to supplement my knowledge on several subjects. The use of internet was largely instrumental in my success at the examination.  I can sing and dance well, but I have not taken any interest in sports. However I have brought repute to the school by winning several awards at language competitions in Sinhala, Tamil and English."

Ayodya said her ambition was to take up the Advanced Level in the Bio science stream and to enter the medical college.
