Q How are you Yasara and how is the change in your life?
There is nothing special. I am happy and keeping well
Q How did you meet him?
At a Taj Hotel function. We associated as friends for about a year and later it developed into an affair.
Q How do you see him?
He has a good understanding, and could think in the correct manner on anything. He is a person with whom you can discuss and sort out any issues. I was looking for someone like that and I am now happy that I found one.
Q When are you hoping to have the wedding?
We are planning to have it next year.
Q We noticed that on the day of your engagement both of you looked very simple?
I always prefer a simple lifestyle. Even make up does not agree with me. There was not much of a crowd; only relatives. Certain media reported that there were two politicos but there were no politicos as we preferred it to be a simple function.
Q By this time you have become a popular character. It is difficult to maintain a good personality along with such a popularity. What are your experiences?
No I am not a popular character. But they reported me in various ways and made me popular. What I like to say is that before making comments of that nature they should have inquired from me otherwise it is not justifiable. Making up stories is a crime.Actually I do not want to be popular. I always look forward to be simple.
Q As a person who had been in the media, how do you assess the behaviour of the media in news connected to popular personalities?
I believe that the media has a duty to perform. But I have noticed in many instances what they do is not what they intend doing. They should realise that even through a small matter things could cause serious problems to persons and they should consider the inconvenience such events cause to individuals. The thinking in our society should also change with the times. It should deviate from being inquisitive.
Q Do you think a cultural change of that nature would ever happen?
It is time that we conceive such a change.
Q As a person who associates with ‘international communities’ do you see any distinct change in our thinking when compared to theirs?
When we compare with other countries we are far behind. Even when we yawn it draws attention. Our people are not free and they don’t think freely. We cannot accept even the manner our people look at passing girls.I do not know whether these will change.
Q What are you presently involved in?
I am running a small hotel in Mt Lavinia. It is a vila, and there are no specialities.
Q Aren’t you keen in entering the field of Art.
No. I wanted to be a simple person.
Q Both your grandfather and your father were well-known persons in that field?
Yes. I acted when I was small. I did not get permission from my school and therefore I did not pursue that field that influences private life. My mother also refrained from acting for this reason. My father produces a drama every month and if I aspired to be popular I could have acted in them, but I never wanted to do so.
Q How was your stay in Australia?
I went to Australia to be employed. But I got fed up and wanted to resign, but if resigned, I would have had to leave Australia. Then I would not be readmitted to that country. So I stayed under difficulties and came back. My life there was boring.
