AN EMOTIONAL BAGGAGE THAT CORRUPTS ideological purity

Social issues galore

Never before in mankind’s history has the interaction with symbols intensified as today. Popularly called, ‘symbolic interaction’ in the field of sociology, this has led the world into social issues the world has known only in a recent times. Being alert to all these issues coming off man  on man is the more cultured international social entity  - ‘ the greens’ and their movement ‘ - the green movement’ that makes the money hungry collectivity in the developed  world ‘go red.’

Yet confining themselves only to the physical environment itself is to stunt their objective for their contribution warrants a much larger periphery.

Their effective participation is anticipated in socio/ political/ economic spheres as well, whose membership increase in the green movement would augur well for a sustainable world.  Politicisation of human activity creates a space for clean government which achievement would lead man into a life of dignity. De-politicization of society should come from civil society itself -significantly a role expected of the green movement.  A strong civil society is today’s need into pressurising world  governments into a de-politicised administrative outfit for sustainable government  which people want and not the kind politicians aspire.  The colour green itself symbolic of what is wholesome , fresh, clean, abundant and luxuriant has little or no scope at all to be understood because of waning creative power. Sensitivity and receptivity no longer holds. Callous disregard for the feelings of fellow beings is the basis of bad government and the absence of the rule of law found most wanting in the areas of freshness and what is wholesome. We uphold computer software having disowned our own. Only the physical body or hardware remains.

Be it in politics, public service, law, journalism and what not the ability into innovation and creativity is waning. As a result accountability is found wanting. No more do we find the spirit of the law and in journalism we find fewer instances of aligning with a higher purpose. The press button era, market economy, stiff competition and advanced lifestyles have denied us our souls.  To restrict creativity only to science and technology is to have the shell minus the oyster. Brick and mortar do not make a place of worship religious  nor spiritual in as much as to be a human is far different from being a human - being.  Knowledge of the law and its spirit are two polarised states as well. Similarly, democratic features alone would not lead to rule of law and moral government. To serve does not necessarily envelop accountability.

One may be served with the tastiest of food yet encounter food poisoning. The hermetical experience of mutual respect is not even a rarity in the absence of accountability. Thus we see human ‘soft ware’ that comprises the sublime self, dull all holistic creativity as civilizations advanced and contributed only to material advancement.

Today’s social issues are certainly an outcome of a fragmented holistic creativity where moral judgment has run haywire. Many in the social whole being hell bent on self - growth have lost sight of a much greater objective - a world of egalitarianism, justice, human dignity and peace. The greed for political power and pecuniary empire building at local and global levels arising out of a shortfall in creative thinking has triggered off star class terrorism the world has never known.  The birth of Al- Qaeda was not out of nothing.  This is not to condone its terror activities.  A progressively increasing global power imbalance where enhanced capital reserves remained one sided has invited uncontrollable wrath.

Take for example the unfair trade system.  A closed door market policy is in force for the poor countries while compelling them to keep theirs open for the rich. Sub standard medicine, food and agro - chemicals much of which is banned in the west find free entry into the third world. Political and economic elite hide trillions of dollars disadvantaging the marginalized who in turn are burdened during recession. The poorest are marginalized while the rich have access to everything and  to top it all the poor do not benefit from massive projects.

The upswing in global military spending is conspicuous while high levels of inequality are ignored. Increasing temperatures and extremities in weather patterns is having its toll on   world food production. On the cards is a global food shortage needless to speak of inaccessibility to drinking water.

Though the battle for global supremacy has slipped into history with the dismantling of the socialist block its neat replacement is found in Al- Qaeda, a system fighter far worse than the Russian opposition of America. If  colonial empire building was based on Christianity and spices, the Muslim fraternity  awaits   a world   governed by the Islamic ideology. Muslims eagerly even count the American Christian converts to Islam - politicization of religion being the basis for power.  Al -Qaeda views the twin forces of present day secular education and the reverence of  Muslim saints as obstacles to goal attainment. Presumably the first churns out labour units to keep the much misused global and national capitalism alive - the springboard to social  issues world wide. Secondly, the scholarship and intellectuality of Muslim saints - always of a sublime nature are impediments to their terror agenda. Muslim saints similar to the Arahats in Buddhism do not condone terror under any circumstances.  It was their intellectual and spiritual prowess that helped ease tension when confronted.  Not surprising then the Sri Lankan Muslims too that once venerated saints are refraining from doing so.  Ideology based governments  are highly emotional and is likely to create an assortment of social issues . All religious ideologies when adulterated with politics,  prostitute the purity of the teachings in Buddhism, Christianity, Islam  and Hinduism . What good has political Christianity done to the world except heighten social tensions and issues.  A world of political Islam would be the same. So be it with vote winning political Buddhism. These then are only emotional baggage that humans carry through life that has served no purpose towards a rational world.  The teachings of Christ , Muhammad and the Buddha find no place in this baggage - most conducive to   political leadership and other lesser mortals that seek their patronage. Still worse is the deafening silence of the rest that uphold a corrupt system worldwide.
