WHITHER SRI LANKA

A A A

Whither indeed! Where are we going? To gather more BUDS (POHOTTUWAS) or scatter them? You can certainly fool some of the people some of the time, but not ALL the people ALL THE TIME! The answer was inevitable! Did the Government set about correcting any of the discrepancies which had been committed? Do the wheels of justice grind that slow that in three years we have not put wrongdoers behind bars? Have any of the significant murders been solved? Poor Thajudeen was not permitted to rest in peace; having exhumed the body many times, what solution was at or do we NOT want to name the culprits? Murderers are allowed to go scot free.

To add insult to the gravity of his exhumation, the body tissues extracted went missing! WHY? Where we ask is the JUSTICE in all of this? Lasantha Wickramatunga another unsolved case in point! Would these murders and others continue to remain shrouded in mystery due to the eminence of our judiciary? Or should I say their reluctance to name the culprits? They seem to concentrate only on filling the Remand Prisons beyond capacity.

A Task Force under the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation and Resettlement is said to be studying, perhaps they have gone back to school, it is taking them so much time to study and come up with solutions; like the EXCRUCIATING, PAINFULL , SLOW BAIL PROCESS! In another area, the poor are being put through land cases for SEVERAL YEARS! WHY? Who are filling their pockets in the process? When and where would this insanity cease? When would the citizens of this country get some redress and reparation for their unsolved problems? IS IT NOT THEIR RIGHT?

NON-CONFORMITY TO ESTABLISHED ORDER OF AGRICULTURE

The villagers and their basic necessities were of absolutely no concern to this Government. Priorities were when the President was abroad the Prime Minister was in residence and vice versa. See as much of the world as we can, when it costs us nothing and let the villagers, the common man find his fill. The prices of rice, sugar, coconut etc., were not important neither was the non-availability of the all important fertilizer to farmers.

The villager suffered much without fertilizer. WHY? Fertilizer was only ORDERED when the time for applying fertilizer had exceeded. No water in some areas, no fertilizer, only WI-FI to fill their stomachs!
Shouldn’t we go on our knees? Oh yes, we did, WE BROUGHT THEM TO THEIR KNEES; A SINGLE POHOTTUWA DID THAT!

UDAYANGANADEBACLE WILL OUTDO BOND SCAM

Like all other delays in the course of Justice, the Bond Scam also will drag further, while the wrongdoers relax in the comfort of the Prison, that’s a new segment in their lives. We don’t hear them grumbling, but we are waiting for concrete results.

No one has anything to lose but the country. We also wonder what the outcome would be on Arjuna Mahendran. Would they force him to return or more teams be dispatched at the country’s expense to bring him down? Interpol was notified about UDAYANGANA, ‘BLUE NOTICES’ were issued instead of ‘RED NOTICES’. WHY? What is being covered up? The MiG aircraft that were never delivered nor should we say never even existed? When and where is this perpetration of justice going to cease?

REAL ROYALTY

True Blue Royalty condescend to step down from their palaces and balconies and walk among the PEOPLE - ‘The Common Man’ and they take great pleasure in doing so.

We read the next Royal wedding is going to take place and more readily accessible for the people’s viewing.

It is the PEOPLE that matter and rightly so. Unheard of in our country!

CHANGE NECESSARY

If anything which had taught our political pundits a lesson, it should be the recent election results. Nevertheless, the country does not come first.

Perhaps our Prime Minister could take a lesson from his illustrious predecessors.

COMMON MAN

The Common Man; who is the Common Man? The beloved citizens of our country. Isn’t it the Common Man’s vote that puts them into their exalted positions of power? Who gave them the right then to shut out the Common Man and his multitude of grievances when they are in positions of power? Does the Common Man not have the right to educate his children, help him get them into a school in the first instance? When there are island-wide epidemics, is the Common Man able to get even a mat on the floor of a Government  Hospital to sleep on? Has the President, the Prime Minister or a single Minister visited the hospitals during any epidemic to ascertain how the patients are being looked after and cared for?

Recently, there was a mega event celebrating 70 years of our Independence. At this occasion - we were told - rightly or incorrectly - that the PM had requested to celebrate the 70 years of our Independence in a grand scale, and this event was accessible only to those who could afford the tickets; certainly not the Common Man!

Why this celebration did not take place at the Galle face green, where the Common Man would have been happy to be a part of it! Our Founding Fathers always put the Common Man first, that was the essence of their greatness which sadly has not come down from generation to generation. A greatness which even now prompts the people of our country to honour the images of those true stalwarts of independence and being venerated even today! The true stalwarts of Independence would have thought nothing but to sit down with the Common Man to show their solidarity. Gentlemen in every fiber of their being!
