The prevailing atmospheric conditions mean that showers or thunder-showers would be experienced in most parts of the island, the Department of Meteorology said yesterday.
It said showers or thunder-showers would occur in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Western and North-Western Provinces and in the Galle and Matara Districts. “Showers or thunder-showers will occur at several places elsewhere after 2.00 p.m. Heavy rainfalls above 100 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western Provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts and fairly heavy falls above 75 mm can be expected at certain places elsewhere,” it said.
Temporary localized strong winds could be experienced and the public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by lightning.
