The Transport Ministry yesterday introduced a new system for pensioners to obtain railway ticket warrants.
“This process will be implemented from March 1,” Transport Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said. Addressing the media after the ceremony held at the Colombo Fort Railway Station, Minister Amaraweera said the programme was launched as promised by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to facilitate senior citizens who had served the country. “To obtain the annual railway warrants, the pensioners were required to register through the respective Divisional Secretariat following the recommendation of the Grama Niladhari,” the Minister said. “The railway warrants would be issued to the beneficiaries after verification of the ID number or pension card number. A verification number would be sent to the pensioners’ mobile number.
That code should be given to the ticket counter to print the railway warrants,” the Minister said.

The implementation of the system is not done so far. We, the pensioners still have to go to the Divisional secretary to obtain the warrants. Would like to know in which Divisional Secretariat this system is is implemented.
