Parliamentarians should not undermine the supremacy of the legislature, Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella told Parliament yesterday.
Mr. Kiriella said this in response to an argument raised by opposition MPs that there is sub judice to consider the proceedings of the Parliamentary Select Committee probing the Easter Sunday attacks as there were some court cases on the incident pending.
“What the select committee reveals could be used as evidence for the cases that are pending. These facts could be used to ether convict or acquit the defendants,” he said.
Besides he said Parliament ignored the verdict given by the Appeal Court to abolish the select committee which was looking into former Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranaike.
“Don’t undermine the Supremacy of the legislature “ he told opposition MPs.
