About 58,000 people belonging to 17,185 families in the Jaffna District had been affected by drought, a senior official in the District Disaster Management Unit told Daily Mirror.“The worst affected were the Delft, Karainagar, Kayts, Velanai, Chavakachcheri, Chankanai, and Marudankerni Divisions,” he said. He further said several families in Karaveddy had also been affected. The Jaffna District Secretariat had taken steps to provide relief through Divisional Secretariats in the respective areas to the affected families.The official said agriculture in the district had also been affected by the drought.
