A teacher of a private education institute and three of his female students, who pleaded guilty of bathing in a stream in the Horton Plains National Park had been fined Rs 20,000 each by Nuwara Eliya Magistrate Pamoda Jayasekara yesterday.
They had been arrested and produced in court by the officials in charge of the National Park. The students and the teacher were from Colombo and Padukka areas.
Officials told the court that they were bathing in a stream in the catchments of Walawe ganga.
A team of officials under Park Warden Pradeep Kumara and Deputy Park Warden T.P. Dayaratne had carried out the raid and arrested the suspects.
