A total of 1,642 people belonging to 419 families had been affected due to the prevailing drought at Kandawalai in Kilinochchi and drinking water was being distributed to them, Divisional Secretary – Kandawalai T. Pirunthakaran said.
The areas under the Kandawalai and Poonagari District Secretariats in the Kilinochchi District had been badly affected due to the prevailing drought.
While there was a shortage of drinking water in certain areas in the Kandawalai area due to the prevailing drought, water was distributed to all the areas where water was needed.
Speaking in that context, the Divisional Secretary said that drinking water distribution was done for 1,642 people belonging to 419 families while 38,000 litres of drinking water was distributed daily to areas where drinking water was needed including Kannagipuram Ambigai Vidyalayam, Nagenthirapuram Nagendira Vidyalayam a request was made to the residents to use the drinking water sparingly.
