The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has appointed three members from their camp to take part in the discussions being held to form a broader political alliance, MP Kanaka Herath said yesterday.
The three appointed members are SLPP Chairman Professor G.L. Peiris, MP Dullas Alahapperuma and Senior Lecturer Jagath Wellawatta.
Speaking at a news briefing yesterday, MP Kanaka Herath said there is a need of forming a broader alliance to end the tenure of the the United National Party (UNP) led Government.
“We request all shareholders taking part in the discussions to form the alliance to ensure that past mistakes would not be repeated and to give the SLPP the foremost place in the alliance,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said the majority of the joint opposition MPs were against the abolition of the executive presidency and said that any move to abolish the executive presidency should
be reconsidered.
