The Locomotive Engineers’ Association yesterday warned of strike action if the government goes ahead with its plan to handover a contract to issue tickets and to set up a modern communication system to private companies, the association heads said yesterday.
General Secretary of the Locomotive Engineers’ Association Indika Dodamgoda alleged that the Cabinet had given the approval to handover the contracts to two private sector companies.
He said the contracts were to be signed on June 26, but had been delayed after the protests by the trade unions.
Mr. Dodamgoda said the project had been planned by the previous government.” The present government pledged to cancel the project but now it seems to be going ahead with it,” he added.
