Axiata Group Berhad (Axiata), one of Asia’s largest telecommunications groups with presence in 10 countries across ASEAN and South Asia, and iflix, the world’s leading subscription video on demand (SVoD) service for emerging markets, announced the signing of a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) relating to the expansion of their strategic collaboration to bring the best in entertainment to Axiata’s more than 125 million customers in
six countries.

From two existing successful partnerships with Celcom in Malaysia and Dialog in Sri Lanka, the regional collaboration is intended to extend to Axiata’s customers at XL in Indonesia, Smart in Cambodia, Robi in Bangladesh and Ncell in Nepal.

In addition, iflix and Axiata intend to jointly produce content specially created for Axiata’s customers in the markets covered by the collaboration.

All of Axiata’s customers will be able to enjoy iflix’s world-class service and vast library of local, regional and western content, utilising Axiata’s leading, best in class connectivity and technology across the region.

Axiata Group Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer Dominic Arena commented, “Axiata has always demonstrated a strong focus on customer experience and innovation as we strengthen our position in new sources of value, specifically in digital entertainment products and digital content distribution platforms across the region. The expansion of our collaboration with iflix is a testament to that commitment. We are thrilled to make iflix’s world-class service and content available to over 125 million customers in Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Nepal and Sri Lanka.”

iflix Group CEO Mark Britt commented, “We are thrilled to strengthen our relationship with Axiata, one of Asia’s largest telecommunications groups, and are humbled by their vote of confidence. We are committed to providing all Axiata customers with unlimited access to the world’s best TV shows and movies through an exceptional user experience and unparalleled service, already enjoyed by Celcom and Dialog customers.

Together with Axiata’s highly innovative and award-winning Mobile Internet Fulfilment Exchange application platform and music service Yonder, we look forward to working with Axiata to further redefine media and entertainment for Axiata’s customers in Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Cambodia, Bangladesh and Nepal, over the coming months.”

The collaboration between Axiata and iflix will set a new standard in entertainment experience for consumers across the region. This deeper integration is a testament to Axiata’s commitment to innovation, offering its customers the best digital features and services available, further strengthening the group’s leading regional telecommunications position.

With five million subscribers across the region and five billion minutes streamed since launch, iflix has established itself as the clear market leader in video streaming. Now available to over one billion people in 18 territories throughout Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, the company recently announced the establishment of iflix Africa, to make its world-class service available in Sub-Saharan Africa.
