Don’t miss out when Power of Play (Pvt) Ltd brings one of Sybil Wettasinghe’s best loved tales to life as ‘Runaway Beard’ takes centre stage from 10-11 am on Saturday 27 September at Expographic Bookstore, Pelawatte.
The monthly event has become a must see for audiences of all ages, and this weekend participants will help Ratu Menike save her village from a rampant beard! Come and enjoy this classic which won the Best Designed Children’s Book (SAARC, 2003).
“Our story readings are promoted as ideal for 4 to 12 year olds, but really they cater to all ages,” says Founder and Artistic director of Power of Play, Sulochana Dissanayake. “It’s wonderful to have a room full of children AND adults abandoning themselves to laughter as they journey through one of Sybil Nenda’s incredible tales. These stories have been with us from the time we were children and they are classics, filled not just with the potential for fun and interaction but also with positive messages that emphasise harmony, goodness and positivity.”
An internationally renowned children’s author, Sybil Wettasinghe has written and illustrated over 300 stories that have won her numerous national and international awards. “Sybil Nenda’s contribution to Sri Lankan literature is tremendous and it is only fitting that we commemorate International Literacy Day with one of her most popular tales.”
