The windy conditions prevailing in the Northwestern, Western, Southwestern and the Southern sea areas of the island will likely to continue until the tomorrow morning, the Meteorology Department said today.
“Fairly strong gusty winds up to 40-50 kmph at times are likely over the Western, Southern, Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western and North-central provinces and in the Trincomalee District,” the Met. Department said.
Meanwhile, the department said that the sea area extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle would be rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 60-70 kmp/h at times.
Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard.
“There is a possibility that near the coastal areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle, may experience surges due to the effect of high tidal waves, having 2.5-3.5 m height,” it said.
