Former MP Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe has returned Rs.1.9 million worth of stamps given to him for official use.
He said he handed over these stamps valued at Rs.1,927,780 to the Post Office at the Parliamentary Complex.
MPs are given stamps of a certain value for their official use every year and are expected to return the unused ones to the postal department at the end of the tenure of parliament.

In the colonial past we had OHMS - on her majesty's service - for official letters. Why not introduce a similar scheme for MPs to post letters through SG of parliament. Giving out stamps can lead to abuse.
