Acting OIC of the Welambada Police, Inspector Bandula Bandara has been interdicted for attempting to return 76 Manna knives and 13 axes from police custody, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said.
He said the Manna knives and axes were taken into the custody from the Welambada mosque on April 28.
“The acting OIC had tried to return those weapons yesterday at the time when the OIC of the Welambada Police Station was on duty at the Kandy Perahera. However, the OIC was informed about the attempt and stopped from returning,” the Spokesman said.
He said the Police Headquarters had instructed DIG in charge of the division to conduct an investigation into the matter.
The acting OIC was interdicted following the investigation, SP Gunasekera said.(DSB)
