The UNP yesterday said it was not agreeable to President Maithripala Sirisena's decision to implement death sentence.
The party said in a statement that it had not moved away from the policy of the late President J. R Jayewardene who abolished the implementation of death sentence.
"The death sentence was abolished by late President J R Jayewardene and it was continued by late President R Premadasa and D B Wijetunge. Even President Chandrika Kumaratunga continued this policy," the party said.(Yohan Perera)

A kind of spineless position expected from a spineless party boss like Ranil W!! What Sirisena (for all his despicable ways ) is doing is completing the process as allowed in the law book. He is not changing or abusing the law. If UNP is against the death penalty, Ranil should change the laws, without trying to appear posh to the outside world.

That's fine. Probably you don't want to get rid of the main funders of UNP. We will make sure wipe you out from the next election .
