The Lanka Self-Employed Professionals' National Three-Wheeler Federation has decided to reduce the fare for the first kilometre by Rs.10 and Rs.5 for the second kilometre from January 1.

Federation President Sunil Jayawardana said the decision was taken because of the recent tax reduction. The charge for the first kilometre was Rs.60 while the second kilometre was Rs.45.

He said a written request would be sent to the Transport Minister on Thursday to implement this as a national policy and thus regulate the three-wheeler taxi service.

Mr. Jayawardene said in case the minister was unable to do so the federation would take legal actions against him.

He said they had also requested the taxi meter companies to support the government and provide a better service to the people. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

It is very sad to note that how 3 wheel drivers are fleecing the foreign tourists who come to this country. In Kandy where I live some of them said they didn't want to get in to a 3 wheeler since they always try to cheat them charging some time Rs 300 some time even Rs 500 for a kilometer.except for Pick me and Yougo normal 3 wheeler don't have meters in Kandy. Government should stop this as this behavior of 3 wheel drivers bring disrepute to this country.Further these 3 wheel drivers hares and some time assault the drivers of pick me and yougo service since they charge very reasonable some from the passengers.
