Three people were killed and two others who were in a lorry were injured when the lorry collided head-on with an SLTB bus near the Sankapala Temple in Embilipitiya this morning, police said.
They said the lorry was travelling towards Embilipitiya and the bus was travelling to Colombo from Kolonna at the time of the accident.
The accident took place as a result of the driver of the lorry falling asleep at the wheel. The driver lost control of the vehicle and the lorry went off the right side of the road and collided head-on with the bus.
The two people who sustained injuries were admitted to the Embilipitiya Hospital, the police said.
