A suspect was arrested by the STF at Ekala over the murder of Krishantha Ajith Kumara, alias ‘Minuwangoda Kalu Ajith’.
The Police said Kalu Ajith was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Mahawatte in Ja-Ela on Wednesday.
The STF said the suspects,41-year-old Tyron Janaka, alias 'Janaka’ was arrested during a raid on Saturday night.
They also recovered a T-56 rifle used for the shooting, a magazine and 20 rounds of T-56 ammunition.
Investigation revealed that the underworld figure known as ‘Ganemulla Sanjeewa’ had given the contract of killing Kalu Ajith to an accomplice of his known as Sanka.
It was revealed that Sanka was the shooter and Janaka was the rider of the motorcycle on which the crime was committed.
Kalu Ajith was in jail over possession of heroin and was released on bail December last year.
Kalu Ajith and Janaka engaged in the drug trafficking together until he was arrested. Later the drug business was handed over to Ajith’s wife, while he was in jail. Sources said that Janaka and Kalu Ajith’s wife had an affair during the period he was in jail.
The dispute reportedly led Janaka to plan the murder of Ajith, sources said.
Kalu Ajith was killed when he arrived to collect money at Mahawatte in Ja-Ela on Wednesday.
The suspect was handed over to the Organised Crimes Prevention Division, the STF said.(DSB)
