Two policemen were injured after they were shot at by unidentified gunman on a motorcycle in Akuressa in the early hours today, police said.
Initial police investigations revealed that the two policemen who were on duty in the Thibbatuwawa area had signalled a suspicious motorcycle to stop. But the bike had sped up disobeying the police orders.
Suddenly one of the three persons on the bike opened fire at the policemen on their motorbike, who had been chasing them closely, injuring both policemen.
The injured policemen were admitted to the Akuressa District Hospital and later transferred to the Matara General Hospital for further treatment.
