The investigation being carried out by the Police Special Investigation Unit (SIU) against Wellampitiya Police Officers, had been able to reveal certain facts during the probe, police said.
The SIU launched a probe to determine whether nine individuals who were workers of the copper factory at Wellampitiya were released on bail due to an error by Wellampitiya Police Officers.
Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said the SIU had begun the investigation and they had discovered several facts regarding the incident and said that stern action would be taken against the officers responsible for the matter.
Nine employees attached to the copper factory in Wellampitiya, which was owned by Mohamed Ibrahim Inshaq Ahamed, the suicide bomber at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel, were arrested in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks on April 21.
They were remanded till May 6 and when the suspects were produced in the court on May 6, they were granted bail.
The SIU launched a probe after several reports claimed that those workers were released because the Wellampitiya Police had failed to mention the offences the suspects were alleged to have committed. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
