Parliament yesterday approved a motion to refer the question of privilege raised by Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka to the committee on Ethics and Privileges under the Standing Order 118.
The motion presented by House Leader Lakshman Kiriella was approved unanimously.
Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka on Wednesday asked for all parliamentary privileges he lost during the time he was in jail to be restored to him. He said he was court marshaled twice during the previous regime while he was sent to Welikada Prison later which resulted in him losing parliamentary privileges.
He asked that all the privileges he lost during the time he was jailed including the MP’s salary to be restored. Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said on Thursday that the matter could be referred to the ethics and privileges committee. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)

We are worried of the darkness we experience at night and he is worried of his parliamentary privileges. It was good he lost the presidential election. Just imagine had he won! OH!

I am a Fonseka supporter but not in this instance as what he ask is illegal. Rightly or wrongly he was jailed by the courts and the highest court upheld his punishment. So his privileges seized. He came out on a pardon from MR but he was not entitled to contest. It was present President who restored all his lost rights enabling him to contest. That does not mean that his conviction was reversed. Hence he cannot ask for lost privileges
