Thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning were likely to occur at several places in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western, North-Central and Northern provinces and in Matara, Badulla, Trincomalee and Batticaloa districts in the evening or night, Department of Meteorology said today.
The Department said temporary strong gusty winds up to 70-80 kmph were also possible during thundershowers.
“Fairly heavy falls about (75-100) mm can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, Southern, North-Central and North-Western provinces and in Mannar and Vavuniya districts,” it said.
It further said light showers may occur in coastal areas of Western and Southern provinces and in Puttalam and Jaffna districts in the morning.
“Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and North-central provinces during the morning,” the Department added.
The highest rainfall of 133.0 mm was reported at Morapitiya in the Kalutara District. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
