Twenty-one bags of ammonia nitrate that had been hidden inside a cage at the Asgiriya Police Kennel Unit was seized yesterday by the Kandy police.
During investigations, the police were informed that the ammonia nitrate was used as coconut fertiliser. However, a senior military official said it was one of the chemicals used in the manufacture of explosives.
Police had seized the stock of chemicals on information received by two senior police officials of the Kandy Police Headquarters.
A senior police officer said a police team was conducting further investigations to find who had brought and hidden the stock of chemicals in the police kennel unit. (J.A.L. Jayasinghe)

Funny isn't it. Any coconut trees in the kennel unit parameters? Basic security. Anything goes in and out of security points must be recorded?
