New railway line from Katunayake to Veyangoda soon: Minister

While promoting tourism in the country, the Transport Ministry together with the Railway Department is exploring the possibilities of building a new railway line from Katunayake Airport to Veyangoda soon, Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Arjuna Ranathunga said.

Addressing a meeting at Minuwangoda, the Minister said that with the help of the new railway line, local and foreign tourists would be able to reach Kandy, Badulla, Jaffna and Trincomalee by train without coming to Colombo.

He said the majority of parliamentarians did not like the concept of the national government.

"I like that concept because we came to power as ministers to serve the people. If we have two more years, we would be able to do more work for the people than what we did during our term, as today we are talking about the development of the country," he said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

When the election is nearer everything is to become soon......take it from me it won't be during this regime......rather you all should have developed the existing lines with Indian assistance to make the train journey smoother and faster .

Yesterday's (1st) noon intercity train from Jaffna to Colombo had 146 seats blocked by your GM from the date the reservations were opened. That is three compartments out of five. Can you tell us for what purpose these were blocked and to whom these seats were released time to time subsequently. This is whats happening in railways.

There is no trains running from BIA to Colombo where majority of people traveling from airport to Colombo. Building new line may be ministers political show but not it is economical or feasible. No difference all politicians are same.
