The Parliament today approved the regulations under the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act to ban three Muslim organisations -- National Thawheed Jama'at (NTJ), Jamathei Millathu Ibraheem (JMI) and Wilayat As Seylani (WAS).

The gezette notification signed by the President under Section 27 of the Prevention of the Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act was presented by House Leader Lakshman Kiriella.

It bans the obtaining of membership in these organisations, providing leadership, using uniforms, emblems and flags belonging to these organisations and the aiding and abetting with members of those organisations.

Anyone found guilty of the regulations of the gazette notification would be liable to a 20-year jail term with their assets being confiscated. (Ajith Siriwardana)

How many times have we to grind it into you that this is not enough. You have to ban the All-Ceylon Thowheed Jamaat as well as the Jamiathul Ulama whose Secretary is the Head of the All-Ceylon Thowheed Jamaat. It was very unfortunate, that this Jamiathul Ulama was officially established and made the spokesmen for the Muslim Community during the Rajapakse Regime. This had gone into their heads and from that moment onwards, these fellows created enough and more problems for the country and the Muslim Community. We as Muslims want our affairs to be taken over by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
