Muslim MPs who resigned from their Cabinet, state and deputy ministerial posts in June this year have decided to accept portfolios once again, one such MP said yesterday.

MP Ameer Ali told the Daily Mirror that all Muslim MPs have decided to accept the ministerial portfolios offered to them.

However, he said the date of swearing in is yet to be decided. “The date for the swearing-in will be decided once President Maithripala Sirisena returns from his current tour to the UK.

Asked whether ACMC Leader Rishad Bathiudeen would also accept the portfolio, the MP said Mr. Bathiudeen has also decided to accept a portfolio.

Cabinet ministers Rishad Bathiudeen, Rauff Hakeem, Kabir Hashim, A. H. M. Haleem and five deputy ministers including Ali Shahir Moulana and A H M Fowzie resigned from their posts on June 3.

Subsequently, parliamentarians Abdul Haleem and Kabir Hashim were sworn in before President Maithripala Sirisena on June 20, Haleem as the Minister of Posts and Muslim Religious Affairs and Hashim as Minister of Highways, Road Development and Petroleum Resources Development. (Yohan Perera)
