A 56-year-old man wanted over the fatal shooting of a police constable (PC) at Akuressa in May 22, was killed in a shoot-out with police early this morning at Urumutta in Akuressla.
Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said the suspect, Lokuge Dharmasiri, a resident of Urumutta and was killed when he opened fired at police to evade the arrest.
He said the suspect was injured in the shooting but succumbed to injuries after admission to the Akuressa Hospital.
A PC was killed by the suspect when a police team attempted to arrest him during a raid conducted on illegal liquor at Urumutta on May 22.
