Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga, who has been given clearance to play in the full Indian Premier League (IPL) season, has now expressed his desire to play in the SLC Super Provincial T20 Cricket Tournament.
According to highly placed sources close to the Mumbai Indians Team, Malinga, who arrived in India yesterday, is likely to discuss with the Mumbai Indians Head Coach Mahela Jayawardene and other senior team members, whether he can go back to Sri Lanka and take part in the Provincial Tournament and return for the remaining IPL matches.
Malinga had expressed his desire to play in a few Provincial matches during his interaction with the National Selectors.
However, the selectors made it clear to him that he can either play the entire tournament and not part of it or skip it and play the IPL matches.
Malinga is likely to have his final decision today. The selectors have not yet named the new captain of the Galle Provincial Team and are waiting for Malinga’s response.(Bipin Dani)

For him to retire is not an issue. Do we have replacements even though he is after injury treatments and still the best of the lot?
