A laptop suspected to have been used by National Thawheed Jama'at (NTJ) leader Mohamed Zahran Hashim and funds worth Rs.3.5 million belonging to the NTJ, were recovered today, police said.
They said the laptop and the funds were recovered following information received by the State Intelligence Services.
Funds worth Rs.5 million out of which Rs.1.5 million was found two days ago, had been hidden by Zaharan’s Ampara leader, ‘Kalmunai Shiyam'.
‘Kalmunai Shiyam' was arrested two weeks ago and is currently under detention.
Meanwhile, the laptop was recovered at a spot close to the Addalaichena lagoon.
Investigations have revealed that Zaharan Hashim had reportedly informed ‘Kalmunai Shiyam' to keep the laptop in a safe location.
Intelligence Services are of the opinion that the laptop had been used by Zahran Hashim and security officers are in the process of recovering data from the laptop which would be helpful in ongoing investigations. (Wasantha Chandrapala)
