At least 3,000 people in 16 districts had been sent for quarantine as a result of the Kandakadu cluster, Public Health Inspectors Union President Upul Rohana said today.

He said the cases related to Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre had been reported from Gampaha, Puttlam, Kalutara, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Rathnapura, Kandy, Matale, Kagalle, Jaffna, Kurunegala and Monaragala.

“Those who are on self-quarantine and those sent to quarantine centers are among the 3,000 people,” he said.
“These people have maintained links with the 534 people, who had been detected from the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre, of which 25 personnel from the society were tested positive,” he added.

Moreover, he said Sri Lanka was not out of the woods yet in terms of Covid-19 situation and therefore it was vital to adhere to health guidelines.

He also called for the guidelines relating to the election be published via a gazette immediately adding if the situation continued, PHIs would have to withdraw from their duties considering their own safety and urged the Health Ministry to take sole responsibility. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
